In the middle (of the middle) of the country, a teenage girl gets pregnant. Not wanting the shame of a teenage pregnancy, but telling her she must carry it to term, the girl's mother forces her to tell the town priest that she has been the subject of an immaculate conception; that god is the father of her child. We see this lie spiral throughout the town, and eventually the entire country comes to see her as a modern day Mother Mary.
